Sign up for the National Day of Service on Martin Luther King Day . . .
Democrats Work is working with the Presidential Inaugural Committee to help put together the "Renewing America Together" National Day of Service on Monday, January 19th (and the weekend before). On Martin Luther King Day -- a day before President-elect Obama will be sworn in -- volunteers across the country will get to work to bring about the change we need. We hope you'll get involved. Here are some events that Democrats Work volunteers have organized. (All events are on Monday, January 19th, unless noted.)
- Arkansas: Arkansas Foodbank Network in Little Rock
- Colorado: Denver Rescue Mission; Canned Food Drives in Denver with House District 5 here, here, or here (all on January 17th); Serve Lunch at The Crossing in Denver; Food Bank of the Rockies (with another shift added!); Jeffco Action Center; Cleanup Tollgate Creek in Aurora; Urban Peak in Denver (January 18th); Broomfield Food Drive
- Florida: New Smyrna Beach Cleanup
- Virginia: Clifton Road Cleanup
- Washington: Flood relief in Carnation; Work at the Northwest Harvest Foodbank in Kent; Restore Cheasty Greenspace in Seattle; Planting at the Duwamish Riverbend Hill in Tukwila (January 17th)
- Wyoming: Help at Interfaith-Good Samaritan in Laramie

Yes We Cans raises over $20,000 for food banks
Thanks to the Democrats Work community for contributing over $20,000 to food banks across the country. We have all heard how food banks are struggling in these tough economic times . . . and we did something about it.Because of you, the Yes We Cans Virtual Food Drive was a huge success. Over 80,000 meals were donated to those in need.
What a year!
During the last several months, we have seen the new politics of service catch on across the country. Here are some highlights:
- Ready, Set, CO! mobilized hundreds of volunteers to get the metro Denver area ready for the history making Democratic National Convention.
- Delegate Service Day gave the delegates a chance to give back during the Convention, including Michelle Obama, President and Mrs. Carter, and a thousand delegates who took on projects throughout Denver.
- Obama Works joined with Democrats Work to keep the action moving with a national day of service on September 6th.
- Service Nation took that theme and ran it farther than most would think possible, and Democrats Work volunteers joined with thousands of people across America who on September 27th put their values into action.
Everyone is doing it . . .
We are excited to announce the launch of our new video campaign, "Everyone Is Doing It." You can see that some really major stars contributed to this effort. We are very proud. This campaign is part of our larger effort to promote and grow a "politics of service" - a politics that advances progressive values through tangible action at the local level. Check it out:

We clean up our neighborhoods and parks. We support teachers and students, paint public schools, and build playgrounds. We work at food banks, plant trees, and support our troops and their families.
We are Democrats. We are committed to service. And we put our values into action.
